Ways to Live in Your Home While It's on the Market

Often times, home sellers have to place their homes on the market while they are still living in them. This can lead to stress, confusion, and disorganization. You want to keep your home showings as smooth as possible, though, to increase your chances that the home will sell. Here are our tips on how to live in your home while it’s on the market:

Be Organized.

Sometimes, you might not always hang your clothes up in the closet right away. Or, you might take a few days to do the dishes that are sitting in your sink. When your home is on the market, you can’t live like this. You need to be as organized as possible so you are ready to leave when a realtor calls saying potential buyers want to see the house.

Keep Belongings in a Storage Unit.

If you are having a hard time keeping your home organized, consider moving some belongings into a storage unit. This could include extra clutter, furniture, or personal belongings. The point is that if these belongings are in a storage unit, they aren’t in your home. Less is more in the case of home showings, so this might be a good option for you if your home has many belongings.

Remove Personalized Items.

Remove all personalized items throughout your house. This includes picture frames, growth charts, drawings, sports memorabilia, etc. You don’t want to give potential buyers any reason to pass over your home for persona reasons. It might be sad to see your favorite items gone while your house is going through the home showing process, but just remember that you will soon be able to display these items in your new house.

Make a Showing Plan.

When your realtor calls saying he or she has interested buyers, you need to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. If you are still living in the house, you will need to make a showing plan in order to maximize your showing’s effectiveness. This plan can include steps that need to be taken after a realtor calls, or even where specific items should go in case there isn’t time for emergency organization.
